A new case of missing plane has been reported in eastern Indonesia.
The Twin Otter plane which was carrying three crew and seven passengers, including three children, is believed to have lost radio contact.
A report by online Telegraph?published on October 2, 2015 quoted the Transportation Ministry spokesman Julius Barata as saying, the Twin Otter plane lost contact Friday while on a flight in South Sulawesi province.
He said the plane lost radio contact about 30 minutes before it was expected to land in Makassar, the provincial capital.
It was carrying three crew and seven passengers, including three children, from Masamba in the same province, reported Telegraph.
A rescue team has been sent to search for the plane, owned by the private Aviastar Mandiri airline.
Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago of nearly 250 million people, has been plagued by transportation accidents in recent years, including plane and train crashes and ferry sinkings.
Last year, News24 reported that, an AirAsia plane with 161 people aboard lost contact with ground control on Sunday after takeoff from Indonesia on the way to Singapore, and search and rescue operations were under way.
The plane lost communication with Jakarta’s air traffic control at 07:24, about an hour before it was scheduled to land in Singapore, the Singapore Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement. The contact was lost about 42 minutes after takeoff from Indonesia’s Surabaya airport, Hadi Mustofa, an official of the transportation ministry told Indonesia’s MetroTV.
AirAsia said in a statement that the plane was an Airbus A320-200 and that search and rescue operations were in progress.
The plane had six crew and 155 passengers, including 16 children and one infant, the general manager of Surabaya’s Juanda airport, Trikora Raharjo, told The Associated Press.
The plane lost contact when it was believed to be over the Java Sea between Kalimantan and Java islands, Mustofa said.
He said the weather in the area was cloudy.
In the same year,?Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board was reported missing.
