Staff of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service are set to begin an indefinite nationwide strike on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, over what their union describes as unresolved conditions of service grievances with management.

The industrial action is being pursued by members of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), who directed the move in a formal notice addressed to the Director-General of the TVET Service. No resolution had been announced as of Monday evening.

The development adds to a widening pattern of labour unrest in Ghana’s public sector. The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) only this week returned its more than 60,000 members to work following a two-week strike that paralysed civil service offices and district assemblies nationwide, after the government requested a 14-day window to address salary and conditions disputes. The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has also issued a fresh strike warning in recent weeks, citing continued delays in the signing of conditions of service agreements for non-teaching staff across public institutions.

The TVET Service is responsible for coordinating technical and vocational training across Ghana, overseeing institutions that train hundreds of thousands of students annually in trades and skills-based programmes intended to support the country’s industrialisation agenda.

The PSWU is an affiliate of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) and represents workers across a range of public service institutions. Details on the specific grievances driving the TVET strike were contained in the union’s formal notice to management. NewsGhana is monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they develop.
