A new bout of crises appear set to tear down the Mega Progressive Peoples Party?(MP3) in Anambra state, and the entire South East geopolitical zone.
This indication made manifest yesterday at a meeting organized by one Chief AK Oppiah in his house in Awka. Thumbing his chest as the new Deputy National chairman(South East), he said his mission was to ensure that all his ‘group’ was properly accommodated within the state executive structure he has drawn up.
Addressing the meeting, he said it was time to settle all those he used to know at the United Progressives Party(UPP) who accepted to move into the MP3 with him. But when asked about the people he met in the party he appeared to be trampling on now, Oppiah evaded a direct response.
Pointing out that the party needed to be awaken from its present slumber ahead 2015, he said his at tension and main focus was on candidates and aspirants who would want to vie for elective positions in 2015 general election on the platform of the party.
He expressed dismay over the situation where the party has no office in the state and that it’s part of reasons why the party needed to be restructured so that aspirants wishing to prosecute the 2015 general elections on the party would not be disadvantaged even as he made it abundantly clear that some presidential aspirants are already discussing with the national officers of the party and that the MP3
would be rebranded to attract those wishing to go for senate, House of Reps and the state’s House of Assembly come 2015.
Chief Opiah called on the party faithful to be courageous and take the issue of grassroot mobilization seriously so as to up-root the established parties like PDP, APC and APGA in the state. ” The essence and joy of participating in politics is to win and all hands must be on the deck to make our candidates win in the forthcoming election, I know it is a difficult task but it is not an impossible mission.”
But the angry invitees said the man and the party would remain on their belly as long as the headquarters fail to fund the party in the state. They said they won’t come back to any future meeting he organizes if he fail to underwrite their transport costs.
A telephone call across the zone- comprising Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, and Imo disclosed similar anger and disdain. They wondered how the national headquarter would foist someone on them without due process. They noted that it was not new leadership was the problem with the party, but funding. They therefore urged the headquarters to return Oppiah to wherever he came from.
They wondered the type of person that would come to a party and sweep away all those he met on ground, to foist strange characters who acknowledged they all belonged to named different political parties in the country. They alleged he may have an unfriendly motive.
