The Very Rev Fr John Takyi, Vicar- General of the Catholic Diocese of Techiman, has appealed to traditional authorities to constitute strategic development planning teams as a catalyst for sustainable development.
He said this would act as a pedestal for effective implementation and actualization of developmental agenda for the people by the traditional authorities.
Very Rev. Fr. Takyi said this on Saturday at Techiman during the launch of the 10th anniversary celebration of the enstoolment and installation of Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw 1V, Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area.
The anniversary, jointly being celebrated with the annual ?Fofie Yam Festival of the Ohene Ameyaw Stool? is on the theme ?Strengthening the Partnership between Techiman Traditional Authority and all Stakeholders to utilize opportunities for Development?.
Very Rev. Fr. Takyi who deputized for the Catholic Bishop of Techiman, said the vision must be clarified and specified with prioritized and achievable objectives to enhance the progress of the people.
He said that could only be sustained with long-term development plans as the basis for successive traditional leaderships to continue for the sustainable development of their respective areas.
He said stakeholders like the financial institutions and other corporate bodies in the traditional areas did not really appreciate the real needs of traditional authorities and give them the necessary support.
Very Rev. Fr. Takyi appealed to stakeholders, particularly the business community, to assist traditional authorities financially and materially to promote development.
Dr Ernest Ameyaw, the Medical Director of the Holy Family Catholic Hospital at Techiman, commended the Techiman Traditional Council (TDC) for supporting the health facility in diverse ways that had led to its success story, despite their numerous operational challenges, particularly being the busiest hospital in the Region.
He cited the additional expanse of land donated to the Hospital by Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw on his accession to the Ohene Ameyaw stool and this led to the establishment of a Nursing Training College at the Hospital.
Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw said Techiman was one of the fastest growing Municipalities in the country and the most populous in Brong-Ahafo, hence the TDC wanted to strengthen its relationship with all stakeholders to ensure that all opportunities that pointed to development were exploited.
He stated 10 years of peaceful reign in the traditional area was no mean an achievement that required all citizens and residents of the area to be proud of and therefore asked them to review their achievements, failures and challenges to strategise ahead to enhance their well-being.
Uni-Bank Ghana Limited, the major sponsor of the anniversary, presented a cheque for GHC8000.00 to the TDC towards the organization of the programme.
Mr Charles Tadi Banyu, Techiman branch Manager of the Bank, said the donation formed part of the Bank?s corporate social responsibility to the traditional area.
