A study conducted recently revealed that at least 30,000 people in Lome are employed in the community service sector with 70 percent of them employed informally.
The findings of the study showed that majority of those providing community service do not benefit from any social protection.
Further, the study revealed that 54.9 percent of the people working in the sector are involved in domestic chores and majority of them earn meagre monthly wages that range from 20 to 30 dollars.
The director of Togo’s National Employment Agency Edmon Comlan Amoussou said the program had been launched at a time when “the tradition of African solidarity was almost becoming extinct” and that it will help to address the insufficiencies witnessed in the community service sector. Enditem
