The Oyo State Correspondent of ThisDay newspaper, Mr Tunde Sanni, is dead. He was 49 years old and is survived by his wife and eight children.

He died on Thursday at Ijebu Imodi, Ogun State after a prolonged illness and has been buried according to Islamic rites in the town.

Sanni took ill four months ago and was hospitalised at the University College Hospital, Ibadan where he spent about one month. After his discharge from the hospital, he returned to his home town of Ijebu Imodi where he spent his last days.
Meanwhile, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has commiserated with the family of the late Thisday Correspondent in the state, Mr. Tunde Sanni, describing the death of the ace journalist as highly unfortunate and disheartening.

The governor, in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday by his Special Adviser, Dr. Festus Adedayo, said that he received the news of Mr. Sanni?s death with shock and disbelief.

Although he recalled that the late correspondent had for some time been in and out of hospital for an undisclosed ailment, the governor expressed the regret that he (Sanni) finally lost the battle to save his life.

Governor Ajimobi described the late journalist as a core professional, with high sense of responsibility and commitment, adding that he would be remembered for upholding the ethics of the journalism profession and for his analytical mind which reflected in his various write-ups.

He also noted Mr. Sanni?s immense contribution to the success of his administration through his constructive criticisms of his government?s policies and programmes.

While condoling with the family, friends, professional colleagues and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the passing away of Mr. Sanni, he prayed the almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest.
