A middle age man from Yendi in the Northern Region who broke into an auto electrician workshop at Agona Swedru in the Central Region in the middle of the night on April 1 2015 and made away with forty eight car batteries, a radiator and Rhino car starters has been arrested and remanded by an Agona Swedru High Court.
The thief, Mohammed Iddrisu who claims to be scrap dealer in Accra was said to have used a hacksaw blade to cut open the security padlock of the shop and stole the items valued at GH 17,000.00 Cedis and hired the services of a taxi cab in the town to transport them to the lorry station where he boardeda Sprinter bus destined to Accra.
Narrating the incident to SpyGhana, the owner of the shop, Mr. Nicholas Osei said his brother who stays around the shop woke up at dawn on that fateful day and saw the shop open.
Sensing foul play, his rather went home and brought out a torchlight to ascertain what has happened only to realize that the shop had been broken into, and, many items stolen.
He said his brother then called him on phone to inform him of what has happened so he dispatched his brother to go to the main station any check whether he will find the items and his senior apprentice to make a report to the police, whiles he went to a radio station to make an announcement.
He said immediately he got to the radio station, lights went off so he traced his brother to the lorry station where officials at the station confirmed that one young man had boarded a bus with the batteries destined for Accra.
He said after narrating the story to the station officials, they then called the driver on his phone and directed him to drive the items to the nearest police station because they were stolen goods.
According to Mr. Osei, on reaching the ObetsebiLamptey roundabout at Kaneshie around 5:00 a.m., the driver reported the matter to a policeman on duty there, but the policeman told him to leave the thief because he the driver has no evidence to press charges against the suspected thief.
He said upon hearing the report, the thief Iddirsu jumped through the window of the vehicle in an attempt to run away but he was chased and arrested by the driver and his mate who sent him to police station, where upon interrogation he admitted the offence and was therefore sent to the Swedrupolice in the company of another police officer from Accra, and after further interrogation was arraigned before the Court which remanded into prison custody to reappear on a later date.
