A first quarter report on civic activities, administrative and financial matters from the office stated that “the first quarter ended without the release of funds for goods and services to the office”.

A copy of the report made available to the Ghana News Agency indicated that the office was therefore unable to meet its target to organize at least 74 civic education activities in the first quarter of the year.

The office, it stated, carried out 61 programmes representing 82 per cent of the planned 74 activities.

Some other targets the office was unable to meet due to the delay in release of funds included 10 planned programmes for post-elections community engagement on good governance, planned excursion activities to parliament and the judiciary for Civic Education Club members, and planned programmes for faith-based organizations to educate them on the duties of Members of Parliament, among others.

Mr Isaac Kwame Antwi, Tema Metropolitan NCCE Director, noted that his outfit as part of initiatives to get funding for its activities, was in talks with Cargill Ghana Limited for a renewal of its sponsorship of the ‘constitution game’ among senior high schools in the Metropolis.

Mr Antwi explained that the ‘constitution game’ was an initiative to educate the public especially the youth on Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

He said in the first quarter of the year, the office organized 13 Civic Education Club activities out of which eight were held at basic schools with an aim of facilitating the formation of the club in those schools.

The remaining five activities were executed among club members in three senior high schools in the Metropolis.
