Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba (UEW), said people should eschew the notion that the Distance Education programme was for students to acquire certificate for enhanced salaries or gain promotion.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw made the call at a matriculation ceremony held at Winneba for the southern sector Distance Education students who are undertaking various courses for the 2013-2014 academic year.
He said1456 out of 1917 applications received were offered admission to undertake Diploma in Basic Education out of which 49 per cent were females.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw said the teaching profession required dedicated professionals and, therefore, students for distance programme of the UEW should be seen as role models to the general public and set good examples for the pupils and students who would be looking up to them.
He urged them to demonstrate a high sense of discipline adding that they should avoid drinking and drug abuse, indiscriminate sexual behavior and abide by the Code of Ethics of the profession in all their endeavours.
