A 24-year-old teacher at Agona Swedru First Baptist Preparatory School in the Agona West District of the Central Region, Amos Nyarko, who defiled a 13-year-old pupil of the school, has found himself in the grip of the law.
Amos, who was charged with defilement, pleaded guilty with explanation.
He was therefore sentenced to eight years imprisonment by a Swedru Circuit Court presided over by Arthur Sampong.
The accused, in his explanation, told the court he was sleeping but woke up to see the victim holding his penis and was therefore compelled to have sex with her.
Prosecuting, Inspector Emmanuel Kai said the victim lives with her parents at Swedru. On February 1, 2014, the accused invited her to his house around 2:00pm to watch a football match between Ghana and Libya with him.
Inspector Kai stated that the victim, in the process of watching the match, fell asleep. Amos then took advantage of the situation and had sex with the innocent girl.
The prosecutor noted that the accused escorted the victim home the following day around 3:00 am following the pains she was going through.
Prosecution added that the parents confronted her to know where she had spent the night and she narrated the incident to them. They then reported the matter to the Swedru Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
Inspector Kai noted that a medical form was issued to the victim for medical attention and it was confirmed she had been defiled.
