Tanzania to assess rural electrification program

The Tanzanian government said on Monday it would assess a rural electrification program in the country to ensure equal distribution among different regions.

Sospeter Muhongo, Minister for Energy and Minerals, told Parliament that so far some regions had wider coverage than others and that Phase Three of the program, which was expected to start in July, would include regions sidelined in the previous two phases.

“The distribution of rural power projects is not balanced and the south-western regions have been affected as only a few villages have been covered,” said the minister.

The Rural Energy Agency is responsible for the program. Enditem
