If the reports said two pieces of logs fell off a jet ski, I would understand it. But that is not what the reports say. There were two human beings. They have family members. They were bread winners. The lives of others depended on them. Some people are hurting badly.
As we speak, a miserable old man with his vision blurred by tears is looking vaguely across an endless expanse of the azure sea. He is ripe with age, and would have expected a befitting burial from his son. But that young man, who is in his prime, is beneath the water.
This is not something to joke about on social media. No. There is nothing funny about anything here.
We often say the Ghanaian has a humorous angle to everything. But this goes beyond the boundaries of humour. It is insensitivity. We cannot lose our sense of humanity in order to create humour.
Castro and Janet could have been your family members. Or you think you are more righteous than them? Maybe yes. Maybe you are worse. So put yourself in the shoes of their families and friends and say no to such insensitive jokes.
It is not funny.
