People are constantly upgrading and renovating their home to try to give the house more style. Individual styles vary from artsy, trendy, elegant, traditional, and the list goes on. When it comes to staircases and railings there are many options for the styles that are available. Some of the most common styles for staircase design include elliptical, circular, freestanding, single-open-under, spiral, and straight. The first type of stairs, the elliptical design may fit a very contemporary and artistic home decor style. An elliptical staircase design follows along the side of a curved wall. Each step, starting at the bottom, continues to become longer in length until the middle of the staircase. At this point the steps start a gradual decrease in length at the same rate as they made the increase. It is not very common to see this type of staircase and is therefore the perfect unusual touch for any homeowner that wants a unique flare that combines practical yet creative.
The second style is called circular. These steps curve around a continuous radius similarly to the steps in a lighthouse. Sometimes people use the circular style outside of their house, in a beach house, or inside of a children’s bedroom leading to a playroom in the attic. The circular style can fit a variety of decors depending on the type of railings that are used. The next type of staircase design is called free standing. This style allows for people to completely pass underneath because the stairs don’t attach to a wall. The top step and the bottom step are the only places that are attached. Yet another style is the single-Open-Under. This style includes a set of stairs that has one side attached to the wall and the other side open. It is straight and open underneath. Basement stairs are commonly designed with the single-Open-Under style. Another style that always gets a lot of positive attention and comments I the Spiral Staircase. A spiral staircase coils around on a fixed axis. Often a pole from the floor to the ceiling and the stairs wraps around it. While people love the look of the spiral design, it is not very common to see it in an everyday setting. People who have a spiral design are fortunate because it is not easy to encounter stairs such as these. Last but not least, many people select the straight staircase. A straight staircase can be designed three different ways: a straight line from the top to the bottom, an “L” shaped design that goes straight up and turns either right or left at a landing, or the “T” shape that goes straight up and turns both right and left at the landing. Staircases and railings are becoming more and more traditional and less and les creative like they were in the past. These days many people just look at the practical nature of staircases and railings. If people want to give their house a creative touch, they should consider doing something artistic with the staircases and railings.
