Says failure to cater for arrears owed teachers will disrupt peace
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), on Thursday, expressed concern over the inability of the government to capture the outstanding arrears of teachers in its 2013 budget.
Speaking in Gwagwalada at the opening ceremony of the 2012 National Women Committee Conference of the association, the National President of the Union, Samson Ugwoke, said government’s failure to cater for the arrears of allowances owed members of the association as agreed in 2009 would disrupt peace and stability in the nation?s universities.
He identified hazard allowance, call duty allowance, field trip allowance as well as practical teaching allowance as components that made up the earned allowance.
Ugwoke also condemned the spate of killings in the nation?s higher institutions, calling the act barbaric and inhuman. He called on the Federal Government to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
He also called for improved security around the nation?s higher institutions.
