A three-day workshop on international solar energy has been held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
The workshop was to equip solar energy experts across the world with more knowledge.
As renewable energy technologies play an important role in meeting current energy challenges, The Energy Centre (TEC) at KNUST and the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE) in Burkina Faso came up with a Solar Energy Capacity Upgrading Project (SolarCUP) to help solve the energy crisis in Africa
The SolarCUP is supported by the World Bank’s Africa Renewable Energy Access Programme (AFREA) through the clean Investment Framework Multi Donor Trust Fund.
The aim of the SolarCUP project is to help position the two institutions — KNUST and 2iE — as capacity building nodes for the Ecowas Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
The workshop was to present some lessons from the implementation of the SolarCUP project, and also help to create new linkages among Renewable Energy Experts across the world.
Dr. Yao Azoumah, Coordinator of the SolarCUP project at the (2iE), and Mr. David Quansah, the Coordinator of the SolarCUP project in KNUST, guided participants and educated them about the weaknesses and success of the project.
