Burundian Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca and visiting delegates from southwest China’s Sichuan province have agreed to cooperate in the sectors of economic investments, modern farming, infrastructure and the fight against poverty.

Moise Nkurunziza, the spokesman of the Burundian prime minister, told reporters after the meeting Wednesday that the meeting took place at the office of the Burundian prime minister at the State House in Gasenyi, Bujumbura, the economic capital of Burundi.

Hu Yun, one of the vice-governors of Sichuan province, who headed the delegation, briefed Ndirakobuca on the life of Sichuan in all sectors.

“After the briefing, the Burundian prime minister realized that Sichuan has a lot of similarities with Burundi, mainly in agriculture,” said Nkurunziza.

The prime minister told the Chinese delegates that the four priority sectors need investments to respond to ‘Burundi Vision Emerging Country 2040, Developed Country 2060’,” according to the spokesman.

Nkurunziza indicated that the Chinese delegates from Sichuan province will then discuss with Burundian officials from sectoral ministries ways and means of starting the effective cooperation.

Burundi and China have enjoyed fruitful cooperation since 1963. The main sectors of cooperation include agriculture, infrastructure, energy and health.
