….Kwabena Agyepong Rolls Out New List?..As Vetting Committee Starts Work Today
By Samuel Appah-Peniel
The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has disclosed that the party in the coming days would shake-up the party?s communications team by coming out with a new list of communicators for the party in order to bring sanity into the party.
The official communications team list would mandate them to speak on behalf of the party and fade out the current communications team and save the situation whereby individuals invade radio stations on their capacity and purported to be speaking for the party.
The paper can authoritatively state that a new list has been prepared and ready to be issued out to all media houses to know those they can deal with in the coming days.
?This will check reckless communicators and help separate party position from individual opinions to enhanced cohesion in the party? a source close to Mr. Agyapong added.
A source close to the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. KwabenaAgyeiAgyapong confirmed to the Moment in an exclusive interview on Monday.
According to the source, the current situation whereby members speak on behalf of the party without regulation is a recipe for disaster and therefore does not auger well for the party.
However, setting the record straight on Okay FM?s AdeakyeAbiaprogramme with respect to some issues raised by Kofi 123 about Mr. OseiAmeyaw for requesting that the party use funds owed him (by the party) to defray the cost of his nomination fees, MrAgyepong dismissed the assertion by Kofi 123 that the party never owed Mr. OseiAmeyaw.
He explained that as far as the party was concerned, the past National Election Committee captured in their report the party?s indebtedness to Mr.OseiAmeyaw, and in his personal view, ?there is no issue if MrOseiAmeyaw requested the party to use monies owed him by the party to defray his nomination fees.?
Mr. Agyepong cautioned members to be circumspect about issues of the party since they may not be privy to all the fact available.
The nine-member Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will start sitting today to vet the seven presidential aspirants bidding for the flag-bearer position of the party.
After scrutinizing the nomination forms of the seven aspirants, the committee is set today to interview the aspirants to know whether they are capable of becoming the flag bearer of the party, as well as the president of Ghana if the opportunity presents itself.
MrKwabenaAgyepong, speaking on Goodevening Ghana programme on Metro TV with Paul AdomOtchere said the committee would have no option but to recommend all the seven for the special congress of the party slated for August 31 if they don?t disqualify any aspirant.
The seven aspirants are Nana AddoDankwaAkufo -Addo,2012 presidential candidate of the party; Mr Alan KwadjoKyerematen, a former Minister; Mr Francis AddaiNimoh, MP for Mampong; and Dr Kofi KonaduApraku, also a former Minister.
The rest are Mr Stephen AsamoahBoateng, also a former Minister, Mr Joe Ghartey, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Essikado-Ketan; and Mr Kofi OseiAmeyaw, MP for Assuogyaman.
Mr.Agyepong, indicated on theGoodevening Ghanaprogramme that the party had put in place transparent measures to ensure that there was an even playing field for all aspirants saying ?everything we have done as new executives are based on the constitution of the party?.
