Aide to Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr Mustapha Hamid said Nana Addo thinks the process of transferring the two prisoners is flawed.

Dr Hamid believes accepting the two Gitmo prisoners at this time is not right.

About two weeks ago, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby were relocated to Ghana recently after a deal between the two governments.

The two claimed they have been wrongly arrested for 14 years without any charge against them.

“We have suffered but we are not looking for revenge,” they assured the people of Ghana and said they wanted to live in Ghana quietly and peacefully.

Notwithstanding, several groups have condemned the move with the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC), Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, all raising voices against the two detainees being in the country.

Meanwhile, The United States in a statement also expressed gratitude to the government of Ghana for its humanitarian gesture and willingness to support ongoing U.S. efforts to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.
