Today I want to discuss self-encouragement as a development subject. And here we are looking at how we can encourage ourselves as individuals, as families and as a nation.
I therefore ask can we afford to despair, no matter the situation we find ourselves? Hopelessness, helplessness, despair is never a good solution to any situation that we may find ourselves in, either as individuals, families or as a nation.
So for instance we cannot despair about the power situation and leave it as it is. There will and can always be a good solution to whatever we are able to identify as a problem or challenge in our lives.
That is why I recommend self-encouragement as a good ingredient for development at whatever level. Permit me to use a biblical quote, I am a Christian. In 1 Samuel chapter 30 verse 6, the Bible says: “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”
The biblical David found himself in a situation where the easiest solution would have been to join the rest of his team and indulge in self-pity, knowing that he had lost everything. However, instead of engaging in pity-partying with the others, David encouraged himself in the Lord.
I am focusing on the individual today, because if many individuals are able to develop the ability of self-encouragement and find some strength to do something about their situation, it could translate into the families and then to the nation as a whole
Since I am passionate about fighting corruption, let me just use that as an example. If every Ghanaian will determine to fight corruption at his or her own level, we could be dealing with this whole canker of corruption at the national level soon.
If we all decided that we no longer want to accept corruption as the norm, and determine to fight this canker no matter the level we meet it, very soon, institutions will sit up and start working.
For instance, if you decided today that when you go to the DVLA, you will like to go through the process to get what you need and determine not to bribe your way through, very soon, there will not be any “goro” boy at the DVLA because they will not be needed.
Can we begin to adopt self-encouragement as a lifestyle? That if we believe that we are towing the right path, then no matter what the next person say, we will be determined to go the right way?
Self-encouragement could really enhance our development as a people, if we purposed to ensure that “the right thing” ought to be done.
So I want to urge you to adopt self-encouragement as a lifestyle and purpose to affect the next person positively, then collectively we will be towing a great developmental path
So do come on board and let’s keep talking…..
