Hon. Duah Akowuah, Assemblyman for the Sefwi Camp Electoral Area in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region, has expressed deep concern over the worsening sanitation challenges in his community, particularly the state of the refuse dump. He described the situation as a tragedy for the people of Sefwi Camp, noting that poor waste management is endangering the health and well-being of residents.

Akowuah called on both central and local government authorities to urgently deploy District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) machines to address the refuse dump problem. While acknowledging that the machines are primarily meant for construction purposes, he stressed that when sanitation issues threaten lives, swift intervention becomes a necessity. He revealed that despite consulting the Assembly and the DRIP Machines Coordinator, he has yet to receive any response, a silence that has left the community frustrated.

The Assemblyman warned that if the situation persists, residents may be compelled to demonstrate against the ongoing neglect. He emphasized that the community’s patience is wearing thin, especially as some companies operating in the area have failed to show any interest in supporting local development.

Community members echoed his concerns, pointing out that the refuse dump poses serious health risks. They explained that poor sanitation is already creating conditions for disease outbreaks, and immediate government intervention is needed to protect lives. Residents pleaded with the Assembly to respond to their proposals and provide lasting solutions to the challenges that affect their daily lives in the Sefwi Camp Electoral Area.

The growing frustration highlights the urgent need for coordinated action between local authorities, government agencies, and community stakeholders to address sanitation problems before they escalate into a full-blown public health crisis.
