Security has been beefed up in the Bimbilla township with a contingent of armed police and military personnel deployed to the area to avert any further clashes between the two chieftaincy factions.
Mr. Mohammed Aminu Alabira, the General Manager of Gmantambu radio, Bimbilla, in an interview confirmed that initially the district chief executive denied the fact that the chief had been gunned down.
He stated that a group of armed men in military attire sneaked into the place and began shooting indiscriminately, and the whole of Bimbilla township was dead silent, which ended up killing Naa-Adani Dasana and five others.
The shooting started around 7.30 pm after the Ishar prayers and ended somewhere 10-30pm, three hours before police personnel came to the scene. He said at least 5 was confirmed dead including Naa Adani , one of the contestant from the other gate.
Mr.Alabira said ?I don?t believe that those who committed the crime are still in the vicinity ,because no one will commit a crime and still hang around, but who knows the police are here to do their job so let us hope they do not arrest the innocent souls??.
The cause of the latest clashes had to do with plans to bury one of the disputed chiefs, Nakpaa Naa Salifu Dawuni, in the royal mausoleum, a decision opposed by the other faction.
For nearly two decades now there has been confusion over the rightful heir to the Bimbilla skin because of the two royal gates have been involved in the chieftaincy dispute. He added that at least 15 persons have arrested pending investigations.
