The fighting continued outside the boxing ring at the Asian Games Tuesday as the husband of India’s Sarita Devi reportedly reacted furiously to his wife’s controversial semi-final defeat to South Korean Park Ji Na.
Thoiba Singh, Devi’s husband, was involved in a scuffle with security guards and, in an expletive-filled rant, claimed South Korea had “stolen” the medal at the event in Incheon, to the west of Seoul, Indian media reported.
After losing the first round, Devi appeared to fight back strongly against Park and was visibly upset when the decision went against her.
“Don’t accept this decision. Feel robbed. Favouritism in such events isn’t good. Korean boxer gifted the win. Plead judges to be fair,” the Indian Express quoted Sarita as saying after the lightweight bout.
India appealed the decision but the protest was turned down.
