Interior Minister Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka has renewed the nighttime curfew on Sampa Township in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, the latest in a series of security measures in the troubled chieftaincy dispute zone following a significant arms raid less than a week ago.

The curfew, enacted through an Executive Instrument on the advice of the Bono Regional Security Council, runs daily from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM. The restriction also applies to several communities in the neighbouring Jaman South Municipality, including Drobo, Japekrom, Babianiha, Kwasibourkrom, Mpuasu, Basekrom, Kojokesekrom, and Katakyiekrom, all under the same hours.

The renewal comes six days after a joint security operation in Sampa on March 21 led to the arrest of 24 suspects and the recovery of firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, bladed weapons, body armour, and communication devices. The operation was conducted by the Bono Regional Police Command, the 3rd Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

The government has urged chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to remain calm and to pursue grievances through peaceful, non-violent channels. A total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Sampa Township remains in force, with prosecution threatened for any violations.

The curfew was first imposed on Sampa in July 2024 amid a long-running chieftaincy dispute between rival traditional factions over the Sampa stool. The standoff has driven recurring clashes, forced intermittent closures of shops and schools, and prompted repeated security interventions. This is at least the fifth renewal since the restrictions were first put in place.
