A Los Angeles judge has granted pop star Sabrina Carpenter a temporary restraining order against a man her legal team describes as an obsessional stalker who surveilled her Hollywood Hills home for over a month before attempting a violent forced entry.

The order, signed on May 29, requires 31-year-old William Applegate to stay at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her home, her car and her workplace until a full hearing on June 17 determines whether the injunction should be made permanent.

Security investigations determined that suspicious behaviour began as early as April 20, 2026, before escalating into what Carpenter described as a “violent and aggressive trespass” on May 23, when Applegate circumvented her security fencing and tried to push his way through her front door. He was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) but cited and released.

Applegate returned the following day and again on May 25, with court documents stating he loitered outside the property for two hours on one occasion, watching from his car.

Carpenter described him as a “complete stranger” who had never been invited to her home. In a supporting declaration, LAPD Detective Peter Doomanis wrote that Applegate had “developed a disturbing and irrational fixation” on the singer, consistent with an escalating pattern of stalking behaviour.

Applegate is also due in criminal court on June 18 over his arrest for criminal trespassing.
