One of the participants gets vaccinated against hepatitis B

ROTARY CLUB of Accra, Labone has organized a free hepatitis B and eye screening exercise for drivers and passengers at the Achimota Transport Terminal as part of activities marking its 10th anniversary.

The event was also to observe the 107th anniversary of Rotary International. 

President of Rotary Club of Accra, Labone, Charles A.T. Boakye said the screening was to create an avenue to educate the drivers on road safety; enable members of the public know their hepatitis B status and vaccinate not less than fifty people.

During the event, the group provided a general medical screening, conducted eye tests and gave out eyeglasses.

“We believe this exercise will improve road safety in the country and safeguard the numerous citizens who use our roads,” he said acknowledging the contributions and support of members of Rotary Club-Gbagada South (Nigeria), management and staff of the Community Hospital-Ashongman, Intercontinental Bank and Quality Insurance towards the event.

 “As Rotarians we are excited about enacting this vision of Rotary International today at the Achimota Transport Terminal,” he said.    

Rotary International’s theme for the year admonishes all Rotarians to reach within and embrace humanity.

Its main objective is to offer help to those in need as community volunteers. 

The 1.2 million Rotarians who make up more than 34,000 Rotary Clubs in nearly every country around the world, share a dedication to the ideal of service above self.  

Rotary Clubs are open to people of all cultures and ethnicities and are not affiliated with any political or religious organizations.
