Sule Abdulai
A retired Chief Interpreter of the judiciary, Sule Abdulai has expressed disappointment in what he referred to as the report of an Attorney General ordered survey to measure the confidence of people in the judiciary.
For an Attorney General to gleefully come out with such a doctored report to create a negative impression about the judiciary he is supposed to protect is most unfortunate and should not be encouraged in the country, he said.
?I find the palpable anti-judiciary position of the AG as manifested in the outcome of the survey most irresponsible and unfortunate,? he said.
?Had such remarks emanated from as he put it evil dwarfs with sharp teeth, I would have ignored it but for such a professional it is most reprehensible.?
If an AG can spearhead a mission to deprive the judiciary of the much needed confidence it needs to deliver justice, he said ?we are in trouble. We should not encourage such irresponsible remarks, especially from persons who hold important positions in the state machinery.?
Such remarks, he pointed out, are a disincentive to the investments which we badly need for our country?s growth he added.
Speaking exclusively to DAILY GUIDE, he said ?one of the most important things the judiciary needs is the trust of the people it serves. But when this trust is threatened by such reports we the people must stand up and be counted on the side of the proper functioning of our systems especially the judiciary.?
Continuing, he said what the AG should have said is that the NDC has lost confidence in the judiciary and not the people of Ghana.
He said the NDC thinks all Ghanaians do not trust the courts as a result of the many cases they have lost because of the frivolity of the cases.
?The NDC does not trust the courts and not the people of Ghana,? he said.
President John Mahama, he said, should relieve the AG of his duties because the gentleman?s mistrust of the courts does not augur well for the administration of justice in the country.
Mr. Abdulai has worked with the judiciary for 46 years having started as interpreter in November 1963 and retiring in June 2009 as Chief Interpreter General.
?I worked with personalities like Justice Alan Brobbey from his days as magistrate, circuit court and high court judge. I also worked with Justice Taylor, the late Justice Cecilia Koranteng Addow and Justice Annie Jiagge? he said.
His reaction was prompted by a supposed report of a survey ordered by the AG which supposedly indicated that many Ghanaians do not have confidence in the judiciary.
