Mr. Johnson Mills, the Acting Western Regional Director of the Registrar General’s Department (RGD), has said it is mandatory for all businesses and companies — especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) operating in the country — to register with the department.
This, he noted, makes doing businesses with other entities — in terms of supplying of goods and services — very simple.
Speaking at a general meeting of the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Takoradi, he pointed out that currently the department is undergoing some changes to make it easy for all businesses and companies to register with the RGD.
He explained that the new procedure of registering businesses is not cumbersome as it used to be previously. With the new procedure, the individual or company can download the form from the Internet, fill it in and send it to any RGD office throughout the country.
According to him, obtaining a certificate to commence business is facilitated within some few days and urged all who want to register their businesses to pass through proper channel.
Mr. Mills noted that most of the businesses do not renew their certificates annually; therefore, he encouraged all businesses which have not yet renewed its certificate to do so.
On fees paid when registering businesses, he explained that it depends on the businesses of the individual — enterprises fee is fixed whilst limited liability varies depending on the start-up capital to commence business.
Mr. Vincent Annan, the Executive Director of the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, urged SME’s to keep proper records and do proper accounting to benefit from other facilities at the banks in order to expand their businesses.
