The national campaign tour embarked on by the presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, entered a clarion crescendo last Tuesday when scores of people from Odumase in the Lower Manya Krobo district in the Eastern Region defied the cold night and hanged on to receive what many considered their hope; the ‘Edwumawura.’
The Odumase Lorry Park, the venue for the rally, was inundated with party activists clad in the PPP colours of red and white.
Conspicuous were some of the sweat drenched and soaked persevering party die-hards who had been waiting at the lorry park since 10:00 A.M., for the arrival of the business magnate, Dr Nduom.
Alas! Dr Nduom arrived around 6:00 P.M., and the enthusiastic crowd comprising both the young and old from all walks of life, who stood at vantage points along the streets to the lorry park could not help but chant the name “Edwumawura,” amid singing, drumming and dancing to brass band music.
Dr Nduom was apparently delayed because his earlier visits to Nsawam-Adoagyire and Obosomase all in the Akropong area eventually turned into a massive festival with the inhabitants refusing to allow Dr Nduom take leave of them.
The residents who were evidently starved of the Edwumawura therefore wanted more of him and implored him to continue speaking so they can acquaint themselves with him even after giving his final comments.
Dr Nduom also paid a courtesy call on the queen mother of Adoagyire and also visited the wood carvers at Aburi where he introduced the PPP parliamentary candidate for the area, Kwaku Fredua Agyeman.
During the mini-rally at Odumase, Dr Nduom took the opportunity to introduce the Lower Manya PPP parliamentary candidate in the person of Alex Tetteh-Narh.
He therefore urged the residents to support the candidate in every possible way, adding that Mr Tetteh-Narh would not be a bench warmer if given the nod to represent the constituency in Parliament.
The PPP 2012 flag-bearer was ably supported in his campaign tour by PPP National Chairman, Nii Allottey Brew Hammond; national executive members, Mike Eghan, Mrs Mary Ankomah Boakye Boateng; National Secretary, Kofi Asamoah Siaw; Operations Director, Nana Ofori Owusu, and; National Treasurer Felix Ograh.
