Aiyegbeni, however, doesn’t seem ready to leave the Rovers

Newly-promoted side, Reading, are preparing to bid for Blackburn Rovers’ and Nigerian striker,Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

The Championship winners have made the Nigerian hotshot their transfer priority, to boost their rather blunt strike force.

The club won England’s second division, scoring 69 goals in 45 games – and the top scorer, Adam Le Fondre grabbed just 12 goals.

Aiyegbeni has already found the back of the net 16 times in 27 matches for the Rovers, but the club is not sure of remaining in the English Premier League, as they are still sitting deep in the relegation zone.

The Yak’ rejected a move to QPR in January, saying: “I said ‘I don’t want to go. Blackburn gave me the opportunity to play in the Premier League again so for me to just go, I don’t want to do that.

“I’m lucky to be here, they gave me the opportunity to prove myself so why do I have to leave? I had made the decision I don’t want to leave, I want to stay here and help the team stay in the Premier League.”

If Blackburn loses the fight against relegation, Aiyegbeni may not be able to resist the lure of the newly promoted club, except he intends to be demoted to the second division or gets a better offer from a premiership side.
