An Assembly Member for the Garichi Electoral Area in the Pusiga District of the Upper East Region, Mr Zubieru Abdulai was confirmed the new District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pusiga on Thursday.
He got the endorsement of all 20 Assembly members present representing 100 per cent, even though he earlier waited in anxiety for his fate as the Assembly had to go for a second round voting to elect its Presiding Member (PM).
The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari, who swore the nominee into office, expressed gratitude to the Assembly members for accepting the President’s nominee and said their show of oneness clearly signified their preparedness to move the District forward together.
He indicated that their action was encouraging to the powers that be and said in appreciating their efforts, government would not hesitate to respond to their calls for support in bringing the needed development to the district.
He encouraged them to continue running the Assembly without any partisan interests, adding that where Assemblies glaringly show partisan politics, there was difficulty in making concrete decisions in the interest of the people.
The Minister reiterated his call for the DCE to operate an open door policy and endeavour to accept constructive contributions and criticisms and said he should continue to open up to the people just as they reposed trust in his ability to lead.
The Minister reminded the Assembly members about government’s planned programmes and policies and mentioned the One-Village-One-Dam, the one factory to a district, the “Food for Jobs” programme, and the one $1,000,000 to each district as the best socially inclined intervention that could help reduce poverty significantly in the area and called on them to take advantage of these programmes by keeping united.
Mr Abdulai expressed gratitude to his colleague Assembly Members for the trust reposed in him to take the mantle of leadership in the district and pledged his unflinching determination to work hard to bring the needed development to the district.
He called on them to support him run the District successfully during his tenure and adding that already the district was bedeviled with series of needs such as education, health and agriculture.
