Mawuli Atidoh
MAWULI ATIDOH, the designer who escaped from the Sakumono Police cells, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court on fresh charges.
The accused person, an ex-convict who was standing trial for robbing one Gifty Odionye, a business woman of her Techno mobile worth GH?250 and cash of GH?160, escaped from police custody.
He was remanded into police custody in April to reappear on May 10, but prosecutor, DSP Patrick Morkeh had earlier told the court that the accused person escaped from police custody.
He said Atidoh, who was detained at the Sakumono police cells and some four others, created holes in the walls of the cells and escaped.
Fresh Charges
However, the accused person has been slapped with two counts of robbery.
Atidoh is accused of robbing one Daniel Awutey, a cab driver of GH?90.
He also allegedly stole the bag of Najat Ibrahim Baba containing Samsung mini galaxy phone, a cash of GH?8 and other belongings valued at GH?1,000.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and the trial judge Francis Obiri remanded him into police custody to reappear on May 29.
Briefing the court, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Afful said the complainants Awutey and Najat, unemployed live at Dansoman and Nagat Hotel at Adabraka respectively while Atidoh also lives at American House, East-Legon.
He said at about 2:50am on May 13, the accused person hired the services of Awutey from East Legon to Kwame Nkrumah Circle but on reaching Shiashie, a suburb of Accra, Atidoh directed the driver to take him to Abeka Lapaz to engage the services of a prostitute, which he obliged.
Chief Inspector Afful stated that at Abeka Lapaz, Atidoh could not get a prostitute there so he asked Awutey to take him to Circle where he picked Najat after settling on a fee of GH?50.
He said the three moved to a house near the Royal Richester Hotel at East Legon, which Atidoh said was his abode, adding that Atidoh demanded the phone of Najat to call his house for the gate to be opened for him to take money to pay the taxi driver but Najat said she had no credit on her phone.
The prosecutor averred that Atidoh then ordered Najat to get out of the car, which she obliged.
According to Chief Inspector Afful, Atidoh pulled a knife immediately and ordered Najat to surrender her bag.
He stated that Atidoh also collected GH?90 from Awutey at knifepoint, stressing that accused person wanted to snatch the taxi cab from him but he shouted.
He further told the court that a report was made to the East Legon Police and the accused person was arrested at American House when an alarm was raised.
