The Tetteh Quarshie Education Fund has donated equipments for the science resource center at Mampong Presbytarian Senior High School (PRESEC). The gift is aimed at encouraging students to take up science education in high schools in Akuapem.
Some of the science equipments donated to the school include; microscopes, pipettes, burettes, stirring rod, test tube, beaker, and many others. The opportunity was used to inaugurate a science club which is to facilitate science education in the school.
Speaking on behalf of her husband Mr. Horace Dei, Mrs. Nancy Dei Mills, assured the students that if they made good use of the equipments, took their studies seriously and this reflected in their results, a lot more things will be coming their way from the states. ?My husband is passionate to develop education in Mampong, if you are serious there is a lot he will do for you?, she said.
She advised the science students who form the club be determined and relentless in their quest for academic excellence, adding that the country?s development relies on science. Comparing the Ghanaian situation to that of the states, Mrs. Dei Mills cautioned that even in times of economic hardships the last groups of workers to be affected by redeployment are health workers. In the United States, when there was a economic stagnation and workers were being redeployed, health workers were spared.
The former student of Aburi Girls Senior High School student indicated that the equipment?s the husband sent down are just for the launch since a lot more will be sent in the future. She stressed that the use of the equipment?s should reflect in the academic performance of the students. Since this will encourage them to bring more of such things in the future.
The trained pharmacist advised the students to use the internet for good purposes and not to waste time on it with empty chats. She revealed to the students the productive use of the internet and challenged them to avoid excessive visits to the social media sites which carry little educational values.
An elated head master of the school, Rev. E.T. Akusaki, thanked the donors for their kind gesture as he observed that science equipment?s are very costly on the market. He said ?science equipment?s are very costly so if somebody donates such equipment?s you should be very grateful.
The donors, Tetteh Quarshie Educational Fund were represented at the event by Mrs. Nancy Mills Dei and Mrs. Daphine Dei. The equipment?s are intended to facilitate science education in the basic schools in Mampong and its surrounding communities.
Coordinator for the science resource center of the school, Mr. Prince Agbenohevi, assured the donors that his outfit will put the equipment?s to good use. ?We want assure you that we will not rest on our oars but will make this a success?, he said.
