The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has inaugurated the Senchi Consensus Implementation Advisory Group (IAG) and charged members to work assiduously on the road map designed to achieve national economic stability.
The IAG has been established in accordance with the?National Development Planning Commission?(NDPC) Act, (Act 479). Its membership comprises senior management staff of various organisations who have the capacity to make policy decisions on behalf of their institutions.
Members of the IAG are drawn from the NDPC, Office of the President, the Ministry of Finance, Ghana Revenue Authority, ?Bank of Ghana, Controller and Accountant-General?s Department, the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Ghana Trades Union Congress.
Others include: The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, African Centre for Economic Transformation and the Private Enterprise Federation.
The group ?is to come up with a co-ordinated and monitoring system for the effective implementation of the Senchi recommendations, and to co-ordinate the translation of the recommendations into specific actions and facilitate the removal of institutional and operational bottlenecks that impede their implementation.
It will hold meetings with relevant government agencies and agree on interventions to be implemented within specific time frames.
The Vice President, Mr Amissah-Arthur told the IAG that the fiscal deficit was a problem that needed to be tackled. ?You need to be able to analyse the problem in a rigorous fashion,? he charged the group.
The President?s Economic Advisor, Dr Nii Moi Thompson, who had earlier outlined the post-Senchi process, noted that the process would set the country on the road map to economic recovery.
The Director-General of the NDPC, Dr Regina O. Adutwum, earlier, expressed the commission?s preparedness to provide the needed secretarial support to the IAG to ensure effective implementation of the Senchi recommendations.
