Adamu shot a 12-year-old Muhammad in the head

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the arrest of a police sergeant for allegedly shooting a 12-year-old boy in the head, the State Police Command?s Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majiya, said in a statement on Saturday. 

According to the ASP, the incident happened near the local government secretariat at about 1 p.m. The victim, Hassan Muhammad, died on his way to the hospital.

“Sgt. Laminu Adamu fired a shot and critically injured one Hassan Muhammad, 12, a resident of Gwale quarters,” he said.

“After the incident, the policeman was disarmed and arrested, while the victim was rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for treatment.

“We have assured the members of the family of the deceased that the process will be fair and open, and that justice will be surely be done.?

The statement added that the commissioner had directed that the policeman, now in detention, be taken for orderly room trial.

“After the orderly room trial, he will be charged to court, as the command will not condone any act of negligence and indiscipline from its personnel,” it added.

The statement urged officers and men of the command to be highly professional and civil while discharging their duties.

Meanwhile, the killing of Muhammed by the policeman triggered pandemonium and violent protest in the area, with residents making an attempt to burn the divisional police office located in the municipality. The attempt was, however, frustrated by the arrival of several combat-ready personnel.
