Fake constable kofi Boakye in police custody
A 29-year-old labourer from Kissiman, near Achimota, who held himself as a police constable and extorted monies from unsuspecting people, has been nabbed by the Tesano District Police Command.
The suspect Isaac Kofi Boakye, now in police custody, was arrested by another police officer at Abeka Lapaz in police uniform last Wednesday evening.
Narrating the incident to DAILY GUIDE, ASP George Asare, the Tesano District Crime Officer, said the complainant in the case is a police officer stationed at Odorkor District Police Station.
On December 12, 2012, around 7pm, the police officer who visited a friend at Abeka Lapaz, spotted the suspect at the forecourt of the Las Palmas restaurant.
The police officer, who took a second look at the suspect, called him for questioning.
In the course of the interrogation, it was detected that the suspect was not a police officer.
Upon realizing that his modus operandi had been revealed, suspect took to his heels but with the help of some passersby he was grabbed and handed over to the Abeka Lapaz Police Post.
The case was transferred to the Tesano district police command for further investigations.
In a caution statement, suspect Isaac Kofi Boakye said the uniform was given to him by friend who is a police officer.
According to the suspect, the two often wear the uniform to extort money from people at some parts of Achimota and Abeka Lapaz.
However, he was not able to help the police to arrest the said accomplice who supplied him with the police uniform.
ASP Asare said the suspect would be charged for possessing police accoutrement without authority and impersonation.
