The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the deadly armed robbery attack on a VIP passenger bus at the Nasia Bridge along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, which claimed the lives of two passengers.
Addressing a press conference held on Friday at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi, disclosed that the suspect, Jamal Bature Mumuni, 38, was arrested on May 6, 2026, following ongoing investigations into the attack which occurred on May 2, 2026.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations have linked the suspect and his gang to several robbery attacks within the Upper East and North East regions.
ACP Akrofi stated that the suspect was currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts were underway to track down and arrest the remaining members of the gang who are still at large.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to ensuring the safety and security of citizens, particularly along major highways where armed robbery incidents continue to pose a threat to travellers.
The Police further assured the public that intensified intelligence-led operations and security patrols were ongoing to clamp down on criminal gangs operating within the affected regions.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has also cautioned individuals engaging in unlawful acts under the pretext of content creation on social media and other digital platforms.
ACP Akrofi expressed grave concern over what she described as a growing trend where some persons, in the name of creating online content, engage in acts bordering on criminality, including issuing threats against security personnel, spreading misinformation and disinformation, and causing fear and panic among the public.
She warned that such conduct would not be tolerated and stressed that perpetrators would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Police Director noted that the Service had intensified its online monitoring and digital patrols to prevent criminal activities and the abuse of online spaces.
She urged the public, especially content creators and social media users, to exercise responsibility in their online activities and cooperate with security agencies in maintaining peace, law and order across the country.
