Serious war is on- going between the National Association of Pharmaceutical Technologists and Pharmacy Technicians of Nigeria (NAPTTON) on one side and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) on the other. The bone of contention is a programmes run by NAPTTON at the National Board for Technical Education, (NABTB) for NAPTTON members.
PSN recently issued a communiqu? calling for the stoppage of NABTB programme for Pharmacists saying it was wrong for NAPTTON to be organising such educational programme with the National Board for Technical Education.
In a statement issued weekend by its National President Alhaji Yusus A Hojapa, NAPTTON condemned in strong terms, what it called the antagonistic posture of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, (PSN) to its programmes. The Association described the PSN communiqu? as not only selfish and ill motivated, but also contained false claims since it was not true that such a existed only in Nigeria. Ghana, Yusus said runs similar trainings for pharmacists.
“Pharmaceutical Technology Programme, (ND/HND) operates freely in Ghana and other climes hence we wondered why PSN should try to pull wools on the face of the Honourable Minister of Education” the statement noted
He called on the PSN to emulate the good virtues of members of Nigeria Medical Association, Pharmacists from Ghana, Kenya and other climes, who he said has jettisoned selfish interest for real national growth and development.
He stressed that the PSN ought to take a lead among medical scientist, by evolving realistic drug formulary for Nigeria like their counterparts in Indian Malaysia and Pakistan instead of being egocentric and causing distractions to others.
While maintaining that no amount of blackmail would deter them from carrying on with what was noble and right, Hojapa called on the public to disregard what he referred to as unguarded utterances of PSN.
