Says party remains committed to workers’ welfare and success of reforms
The PDP has commended Nigerian workers for their immeasurable contribution to nation building over the past 12 years.
The party made this known in a message signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, addressed to Nigerian workers in Abuja to mark this year’s May Day.
The message said the party plans to reverse the neglected situation created by decades of military rule.
“The party would continue to take issues of workers welfare serious and remain committed to the success of reforms. The PDP has since its inception in 1999, kept the issue of workers welfare high on its agenda,” the statement read.
The party listed some achievements made in the past 12 years such as the monetisation of fringe benefits of workers, the establishment of SERVICOM to provide adequate feedback on service delivery, the right-sizing of the Civil Service, the Contributory Pension Scheme and the Civil Service e-payment system.
“Under the PDP, the nation now has the Freedom of Information Act to ginger vigilance and ease the investigative scrutiny of all Nigerians on the fidelity of service rendered to them.”
It said that the party had also successfully effected wage increment twice in the last 12 years and would continue to be alive to its responsibilities to Nigerian workers.
It expressed confidence in the ability of President Goodluck Jonathan to tackle the current security challenges in Nigeria.
“Despite senseless criticisms by the opposition, the PDP-led Federal Government had done well in tackling security challenges in the country. We must emphasise that the current spate of terrorism is an attack on the entire nation and not on the PDP or the President. It is therefore inhuman and heinous for the opposition to continue to politicise this phenomenon.” the statement read.
