The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday urged the Super Eagles to win the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Eagles are billed to tackle the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire today in a quarter-final match in South Africa.
Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, urged the Super Eagles to win the tournament via a statement issued in Abuja.
“The PDP is proud of the Super Eagles and we commend them for qualifying for the quarter-final. ‘We have been praying for them to get to the finals and win the trophy.
“So, we charge the players to keep their eyes on the cup as they go into their next matches, especially as they take on Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday, ?? he said.
Metuh congratulated the team for getting to the quarter-finals after beating Ethiopia by 2-0 last Tuesday. He said that the PDP had been praying that the Super Eagles should get to the finals of the competition and lift the coveted trophy for the third time.
Nigeria won the trophy in 1980 in Lagos and in 1994 in Tunis, Tunisia.
Metuh said that that the PDP was proud of the Super Eagles, adding that the team should strive to make the nation proud by winning the trophy.
He urged Nigerians to continue praying for the team.
