Says plans to discredit her husband and his government will fail
Patience Jonathan, the First Lady of Nigeria, on Sunday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, said plans to discredit her husband’s administration would fail.
Patience made this known while addressing the congregation at the Kingdom of Grace Mission Incorporated, during a thanksgiving service held for the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Benson Kombowei.
The First Lady, who frowned at sponsors of critics against the Federal Government, submitted that their ultimate calculation was to discredit President Jonathan and portray him as weak and incapable of providing effective governance for the country.
“It is becoming increasingly clear that some people are pre-occupied with sponsoring sharp criticisms against Jonathan and the same set of individuals is funding the ignoble activities of Boko Haram and their efforts would end up in nullity,” she said.
“My husband is a man of peace. The growing cases of insecurity in the country are being handled with utmost commitment and it is (of) great concern to him. Those involved in this act should know that he (Jonathan) did not make himself president of Nigeria. Nigerians voted him into office to lead this country and all they are doing to disrupt and derail the peaceful co-existence of this nation as a corporate entity will definitely fail.”
The First Lady, who also read the only Bible lesson at the thanksgiving service, urged Nigerians not to relent in their support for the Federal Government in its efforts to find solution to the security challenges facing the country, adding that “Nigeria belongs to all of us and we need to contribute maximally in making peace and harmony (our) watchword”.
