It was a strong ovation galore yesterday, as the state screening panel of the All Progressives Congress, APC, formally certified the candidature of the Speaker, Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, to contest the Okigwe zone?s senatorial seat on its platform.
The Speaker, who was also cleared alongside his deputy, Pharm. Donatus Ozoemena, as well as some other members of the House, while addressing some House Correspondents, maintained that it was the set time for Okigwe people to witness what he called the Midas touch of transformation, adding that his candidature was divinely recognized, owing to the nature of the populist support he has garnered so far.
He assured the people of the zone of his resolve to fully accommodate their overall welfare in his routine as a Senator if elected, pointing out that the large chunk of the popular support he has received so far would ultimately spur him into positive actions, having being acquainted with the seeming challenges confronting the people of the zone.

Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, further congratulated the state working committee of the APC for their diligence in ensuring that people of the state were given credible and acceptable candidates who would complement the doggedness of the present administration in the state in its resolve to lift Imo from what he described as the age-long abyss of underdevelopment, while urging the people of Okigwe zone to remain resolute in their quest to witness the needed change.
In a related development, such resounding ovation was also recorded in favor of the Speaker recently at the Imo International Convention Centre, Owerri, venue of the All Progressives Congress, mock primaries, designed to engender an acceptable consensus candidates for the party in the forthcoming general elections.
Reports have it that the Speaker, who stormed the arena with a crowd of his supporters, seemingly stole the show at the occasion, as thunderous and cheering ovations of ?unopposed? rented the air. That unprecedented encomium formally confirmed Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, as the sole senatorial candidate of the party in Okigwe zone, as no aspirant indicated interest to challenge him for the primaries of the party?s ticket.
The Speaker in his address, thanked the panel for finding him worthy to fly the party?s flag in the forthcoming polls, stressing that it was a sign of the total victory of his party in the upcoming elections, as well as the total liberation of the people of Okigwe zone from the shackles of poor representation which has held it backward for decades.
He also promised that he would utilize the implicit confidence bestowed in him by the party to work assiduously for its success and the overall happiness of the Okigwe people and the state by extension.
