As aspirants continue to indicate interest over the representation of Okigwe zone at the upper Chambers of the National Assembly, ahead of the 2015 general elections, clarion calls have gone to the concerned citizens of Okigwe senatorial zone of the state on the need to support the aspiration of the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, to guarantee quality and purposeful representation.
The Director General, Benjamin Uwajumogu Campaign Organization (BUCO), Chief George Maduewesi (Onapuruagu), who passionately rooted for Uwajumogu?s candidature, during an interaction with reporters in Okigwe, maintained that time has come for the intelligent and politically conscious sons and daughters of Okigwe zone to rally round a candidate with enviable track-records and sound pedigree to vehemently push for the all round development of the area.
Chief Maduewesi, pointed out that for Okigwe zone to fully benefit its fair-share from the current Federal structure, it needed a strong voice, and a pragmatic leader who is already armed with the operational dynamics of the legislature, to be able to influence proactive changes that would advance its collective course.
He maintained that the zone, having witnessed laudable achievements from Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, in his capacity as the Speaker of the state Assembly, as well as the political leader of the zone in the last three years, it was important for the good people of Okigwe zone to maintain the track and to continue to benefit from the Speaker?s unparalleled philanthropy, humanism and selfless service to the people.
According to him, ??it is always said that the best of the pudding is in the eating, and this is why Okigwe zone, having seen and tested the political will and capacity of Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, must key into this all important project of ensuring that the zone reclaims all that it has lost in the past years, and only a man with the sound pedigree like Uwajumogu can champion this fight??.
He further stressed that the Speaker?s passion for the less privileged, empowerments of women and youths into meaningful ventures, as well as his open-door administrative policy and desire for the total development of every nook and cranny of Okigwe zone, clearly stood the Speaker out among his numerous contemporaries.
The campaign DG also noted that time had gone when those he described as veteran politicians, whom he said had continuously ensured that there remained a disconnect between the people and meaningful development in the area, adding that it was time for the people of the zone to feel the good impacts of quality representation.
He continued: ?Okigwe zone needs a man who will emancipate it from the hard clutches of those who see themselves as veteran politicians, as well as those who have vehemently refused to shift from the old political order which has brought Okigwe??zone no good, but rather misery. It is in further recognition of this fact that we urge those who out of personal interests for money with a view to destabilizing this divine project and bring division to Okigwe zone, to have a rethink as posterity would never forgive them if they continue on this path of dishing out insults on personalities and retarding the development of the zone. This is why we have consistently rooted for a man with the large heart and who as well, stands for the all round development of Okigwe zone to be supported for the job so that the people would heave a sigh of relief??, the DG stated.
