A Ghana Prisons Service officer stationed in Obuasi was found dead in River Pompo on July 31, 2025. The deceased, Clement Tei Gyabah (known locally as “Biggie”), was in his late twenties and attached to the Obuasi Command.

Preliminary reports indicate he was commuting to work by motorcycle from Asonkore around 5 a.m. amid light rain.

Local accounts suggest Gyabah’s motorcycle veered off the road near the riverbank, colliding with a concrete barricade. However, some eyewitnesses reported deep head wounds on the body, raising suspicions of a possible hit-and-run incident preceding his entry into the river. Police, rescue teams, and residents retrieved both the body and motorcycle from the water.

Gyabah’s remains have been deposited at a morgue pending autopsy. Police investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the incident, with foul play allegations yet to be substantiated by authorities.
