The Super Eagles star spent a day in captivity

Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo, was on Sunday night rescued from kidnappers, a day after his abduction on Saturday.

Spokesman of the Delta State Police, Mr. Charles Muka said policemen freed Obodo and arrested many of his suspected kidnappers but declined to reveal the lead that led to their arrest.

Obodo’s abductors had contacted his family in Warri to demand a ransom of 150,000 Euros.

His kidnap highlights the rising desirability of foreign-based Nigerian footballers and their families as the target of kidnappers.

In August 2011, father of Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel was kidnapped in Jos with his abductors demanding a “chicken change” of N4 billion. Mikel’s father was later rescued in Kano, where the kidnappers had taken him to.
