The Eastern Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Richard Etornam Nyarko (Blibo), in collaboration with GGIED Africa Volunteer, provided free meals to the less privileged and vulnerable during Eid al-Fitr celebrations in Koforidua, New Juaben South.
At a mass gathering at the Koforidua Central Mosque, Mr. Nyarko distributed hot meals, soft drinks, and water to hundreds of people, emphasizing the importance of charity and compassion during Ramadan. He described the holy month as a “time of giving” in Muslim tradition, noting that generosity extends beyond money to include feeding the hungry and supporting the vulnerable. Nyarko reflected on the joy and gratitude of beneficiaries, saying such acts of kindness strengthen community bonds and ensure that the joy of Ramadan is shared widely. He urged the Muslim community to embrace the gesture as a symbol of unity and peace beyond the festive period.
Nana Boakye Dankwah, Country Director of GGIED Africa Volunteer, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable families in Koforidua and across the Eastern Region. He explained that partnerships, in-kind donations, and volunteering are vital to achieving their mission of alleviating suffering and improving livelihoods. Speaking at the sidelines of the event, he assured of continued humanitarian aid and social protection initiatives.
The Eastern Regional Kotokoli Chief, Alhaji Ustaz Imam Abubakari Sadiq Adam, praised the initiative and prayed for Allah’s blessings on Nyarko and GGIED Africa. He also used the occasion to caution the youth against drug abuse, warning of its harmful effects on physical and mental health. He encouraged opinion leaders in Zongo communities to support young people in pursuing higher education to equip them with skills for the job market.
