New Patriotic Party member Stephen Asamoah Boateng has advocated postponing the party’s flagbearer selection to June 2026, citing organizational restructuring needs.
During a July 3 interview on AsaasePa 107.3 FM verified by this publication, the former minister emphasized grassroots consultation before leadership contests.
Asamoah Boateng proposed a four-month reform period to update membership registers and decentralize decision-making. “Delaying the vote allows proper restructuring while maintaining the June 2026 election timeline,” he stated. The remarks follow the NPP’s transition to opposition after the 2024 general elections under Ghana’s constitutional framework.
The former Information Minister further recommended broad-based party financing to reduce resource concentration. Constitutional review processes referencing the Mike Oquaye Committee report are ongoing, though political implementation aspects remain pending according to parliamentary records.
Asamoah Boateng additionally urged reflection over campaigning at the upcoming national delegates conference, aligning with internal reform priorities.
