A devastating head-on collision on the Kintampo-Tamale highway on Friday, April 3, has left nine people dead and 27 others in critical condition, according to reports from the scene.
At least nine people were killed and 27 others left in critical condition following the fatal crash on the Kintampo-Tamale highway. Emergency responders were deployed to the scene to assist survivors and recover the dead.
The Kintampo-Tamale highway, which cuts through the Bono East Region and connects southern Ghana to the north, has a long and troubling record of fatal accidents. The corridor has repeatedly been the site of mass-casualty crashes, many involving commercial vehicles, cargo trucks, and inter-city buses.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of Friday’s collision. The Ghana Police Service and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) are expected to investigate.
The death toll may rise as some of the 27 critically injured victims remain in hospital care.
