Nigerien public media workers go on strike

Public media workers in Niger on Wednesday went on a two day strike to push the government to improve their working and living conditions.

Some of their demands include a 250 percent salary increase, modernization of equipments in the public media sector and facilitation of sports journalists sent outside the country.

Throughout the day on Wednesday, the three public media organs, the Office of Niger Radio and Television, the National Press and Editing Office and the Nigerien News Agency, offered minimum programs.

The strike comes just a month before the start of electoral campaigns for the first round of presidential elections, a period when media, especially public media, is very much needed. Enditem
