In fulfilment of NDC manifesto to construct two hundred (200) new community Day Senior High Schools across the country work on 73 community senior high schools (SHSs) out of the 200 promised by the government is progressing steadily.
In the Western Region, construction work on some of the schools is about 75 per cent complete, while at some locations in the Eastern and Central regions work on the schools is about 60 per cent complete.
The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, inspected progress of work at selected places in the three regions last Tuesday.
She was accompanied by her two deputies, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Mr Alex Kyereme, as the Chief Director of the ministry, Mr Enoch Cobbinah.
The visit took the minister and her entourage to Bamiako in the Nzema East District in the Western Region, Ekumfi Otuam in the Central Region and Nyanoa in the Upper West Akyem District in the Eastern Region.
Each community school comprises 24 standard classrooms, four laboratories, two libraries, 16 offices for heads of departments and offices for Internet facilities.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the construction of the schools was in the interest of all Ghanaians, since it would give more junior high school graduates the opportunity to gain admission to SHS.
