Following last week Saturday mayhem in Mamobi which led to the destruction of properties belonging to Managing Editor of The aL-hAJJ, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu, and Marwako Fast Food, the Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress has extend a consolatory message to the two individuals who suffered huge losses.
In recognition of damages caused Alhaji Bature and Chief Executive of Marwako Fast Food, Alhaji Marwan Chaban, the group said it wished to ?sympathize with Alhaji Bature and management and staff of Marwako Fast Food to remain calm and assist the police carry out their investigations.
In a statement issued in Accra and signed by its Communication Director, Baba Alhaji, the NDC group condemned the violent action of the youth and said they will support all efforts to fish out the perpetrators.
While condemning the attack, the group gave thumps up to the chiefs, opinion leaders and Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso North Constituency with their swift response with a press conference a day after the incident to condemn it.
?The news of the vandalism which took place at the premises of Marwako Fast Food at Mamobi came to the entire Zongo and Muslim communities with shock. As a directorate, we wish to congratulate the Chiefs, Opinion leaders, the MP, media and police service for their swift manner with which the matter was dealt with,? the NDC group noted.
The statement also commended the police for interdicting one of their own to aide in investigations to bring the perpetrators to book.
However, the group averred that if the police had stayed a little longer to protect the good Samaritans who shielded their colleague from been lynched, properties worth millions of Ghana cedis would not have been destroyed by the rampaging youth.
?The police should have been proactive to protect the life and properties of persons who sheltered the policeman until his eventual rescue by his colleagues. We hold a strong view and conviction that if the police had spent some time at the scene, the properties would not have been vandalized,? the statement added.
Regardless of the unfortunate development, the group assured investors and business in and around Mamobi that pragmatic steps are being taken to flush out the hooligans in the Zongo communities.
